Introduction and History
INTRODUCTION

B.C.M. stands for Sh. Bahadur Chand Munjal (1886-1960) in whose sacred memory, the College was established in 1998 BCM Foundation. The College was a dream of Mahatma Satyanand Ji Munjal with the vision of Achieving Inclusive Education and Transforming Society. The college is offering B.Ed. Course (150 seats) & M.Ed. course (50 seats). It is recognized by UGC under section 2(f) & 12(B) of University Grant Commission Act 1956, National Council for Teacher Education and Panjab University, Chandigarh. The college is accredited by NAAC with grade 'A'. The college has thrice been adorned with the prestigious 'National Award for Innovative Practices and Experiments in Education for School and Teacher Education Institutions' by NCERT, Delhi.

Apart from B.C.M. College of Education, BCM Foundation is running five schools in different parts of the city to serve the purpose of educating the society.

History

B.C.M. is the first Education College of Punjab under self finance scheme. Prior to the establishment of this College, Ludhiana City had only one B.Ed. College for Women and that too had 70% seats reserved for rural women.

B.C.M. College began with an initial intake of 60 seats to produce efficient and dedicated teachers under the guidance of renowned and seasoned educationist, Dr. S.K. Nanda, Founder Principal of the College in 1998. The number of seats rose to 120 in the very next year, 180 in 2003 and the number further went upto 280 in 2008. The College got permanent affiliation to Panjab University, Chandigarh in 2004. In 2007-08, M.Ed. course was introduced. This phenomenal rise clearly indicates the commitment of management and faculty who provided a congenial environment of belongingness and democratic work culture. B.Ed. Special Education, Learning Disability (LD) was introduced in the year 2014.

As per NCTE norms 2014, the college is offering the following courses since 2015-

M.Ed. (1st & 2nd Year) - 50 seats (1 Unit) each

B.Ed. (1st & 2nd Year) - 150 seats (3 Units) each
