B.C.M COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Chairman Message

Dear Aspiring Teachers,

Welcome to one of the world's most noble professions, one that shapes the future of children and the destiny of nations.

During the time that you spend here, you will learn what separates a typical teacher from an outstanding and inspirational one. You will see what it takes to be a tutor in a world that is changing rapidly. You will learn to be a mentor and a role model who is able to guide learners and help them acquire valuable life skills. You will learn how to become a support system for children when they are vulnerable and impressionable. You will also help them integrate into the community successfully as young and responsible adults.

Your role is especially significant in the world that is unfolding around us. Many of the jobs, careers, roles and professions that children are supposed to prepare for today didn't exist even ten years ago. By the time the schoolchildren that you teach enter the workforce in the middle of the next decade, they will be in professions that few of us know about at this point!

Enormous changes in curriculum and pedagogy are underway as the New Education Policy rolls out across India. The way you have learnt in school in many ways will be fundamentally different from the way you would be required to teach. In the past, most teachers believed they simply needed to maintain discipline, provide information and ensure that students reproduced this information during tests and examinations. Learning in the modern era is now no longer about providing content - there is YouTube, Google and Microsoft Co-Pilot for that. Your job as an educator would be to develop adaptive learners able to think critically in a rapidly changing world. From teaching children the right answers, you will have to teach children how to ask the right questions. Your main task now would be to make the learning process more inquiry-based, discovery-based, discussion-based and analysis- based. As new age educators, you would be expected to increase the efficiency and capacity to apply the knowledge, rather than re-revising the theoretical concepts in the subject.

I am confident that this academic year will bring new opportunities and give you the strength and capacity to overcome challenges. I encourage you to make the most of every moment at BCM College of Education. Please take full advantage of the resources available to you and stay as engaged as possible in this incredible journey of learning and personal growth.

Best wishes

All the very best!
